London 1988, two musicians Nick Wood and Simon Le Bon create together the SYN Entertainment label. Three years later, it has become one of the first international music companies in Japan. In 2009, Nick Wood asks Sébastien Segers to design a new recording studio in a small building of the 80’s (basement, ground floor + 2 levels) in the Aobadai district in à Tokyo. The constraints: a small budget and a short period for the works.

One of the principles is to have no finishings and to show the building in a “brutalist” way. After the stripping of the carpet, the concrete is only waxed, revealing the traces of glue. The false ceilings are removed and all the technical networks are to be seen (air conditioning units, ducts, etc.). The aesthetic effect is concentrated on a green lacquered wall that seems to be going through the building from bottom to top. In the office areas, he installs storage units for the employees and integrates the windows that are fitted with sanded glass. The consequence of these tricks is that the majority of the budget can be invested in the equipment and in the fitting of the recording studio in the basement. On the facade a touch of green recalls the identity of SYN.
