Sébastien Segers, Heritage Architect
Holding both Belgian and French nationalities, Sébastien Segers was born in 1972 in Bujumbura (Burundi) and grew up in East and West Africa. In 1999, he graduated as an architect (DPLG) from the Paris-Belleville School of Architecture under architect Bernard Huet and simultaneously followed the apprenticeship of his mentor, architect and scientist Pierre Debeaux. Driven by a longstanding interest in the future of historic buildings, he obtained the DSA in Architecture and Heritage from the École de Chaillot in Paris in 2025.
Sébastien Segers began his career in 1998 with the architect Jean Nouvel in Paris then joined the Australian designer Marc Newson in London in 2000. Associate architect of the designer for a decade, he developed architectural and design projects, including the Lever House restaurant in the eponymous 1953 landmark tower, the Azzedine Alaïa boutique and the First Lounges of Australian Qantas airlines
Sébastien Segers founded his agency in Paris in 2003. He develops architectural, heritage, and interior design projects for a demanding clientele in Europe, the United States, as well as Japan and Australia. Recently, his work has focused on restoration and heritage enhancement projects, such as the rehabilitation of an 1870 townhouse in the West Village in New York, or the restoration and conversion of a 15th-century château, listed as a Historic Monument, in southwestern France. He also collaborates on multidisciplinary projects alongside artists such as Daniel Buren.
His work is characterized by a polymath and cross-disciplinary approach, at the intersection of architecture, heritage, design, and artistic creation.
His architectural language is defined by controlled geometry, an intuitive use of space, and a strong emphasis on material selection. His projects offer a contemporary interpretation of classical forms, striving for sobriety, clarity, and durability.
Alongside his practice, Sébastien Segers is actively involved in the recognition and promotion of the work of his mentor, Pierre Debeaux.
